Photography, Concept
I have always been a big fan of David LaChapelle's photography. In particular, I was impressed by his series Paradise (2009–15) and Jesus is My Homeboy (2003). During my third semester of studying for a degree in communication design, I seized an assignment from my professor as an opportunity to try it for myself. I grabbed my two best friends, dressed them up in animal costumes, and photographed them in the woods next to my parents' house. They had no trouble blending into their furry alter egos. The result was a series of photos that I think are very funny, and I still look back on them with a smile and a touch of nostalgia. They are a good example of the contrast between absurdity and accessibility that I seek in much of my work. Covid was a strange time, wasn't it?
