The 100 Best Posters competition takes place once a year in the D-A-CH region and is highly regarded within the industry. It has a new look each year. In my opinion, those involved take themselves a little too serious, which is reflected in the visuals. A little humour and self-irony would be a valuable ingredient, especially within the design community. But what should a design concept look like that pokes fun at itself while putting the competition in a good light?
The concept is inspired by pedigree dog competitions. What??? Let me explain: While most outsiders smile at these events, those involved often take them very, or perhaps even too, serious. I have also noticed this phenomenon in the design world. Furthermore, the German word for dog 'Hund' features in the word 'Hundert'. Funny, isn't it? Or not.
